Rheological Modifiers
Thorcovisc is a series multifunctional of rheological modifiers.
Thorcovisc 45 is a cross-linked, highly branched gelling agent which can work as either the primary or co-emulsifier. It has good rubout while it also imparts a soft non-tacky after feel. It will suspend inorganic sunscreens as well as promote formula stability.
Thorcovisc Emul 33 and Thorcovisc Emul 34 & 34 U are liquid cold process products that thicken upon neutralization. They are compatible with peroxide and other oxidizing agents, electrolytes, polar solvents, and zinc pyrithione. Thorcovisc Emul 33 yields a milky gel while Thorcovisc Emul 34 & 34 U yields a translucent gel.
Thornley Company’s Thorcopol Series includes synthetic cross-linked water soluble polymers of acrylic acid, which conform to USP/NF specifications as "Carbomer”. These white free-flowing powders are soluble in water, alcohol and glycols. The pH of the Thorcopols before neutralization is between 2.5 to 3.0. Thorcopols are efficient for thickening, suspending insoluble ingredients, and stabilizing emulsions.
